| Los Paisajes de Chile The Landscapes of Chile A series of Fourteen paintings made in Chile as part of a Fulbright Grant for Research and Study Abroad in Chile. |

Dimensions: 85x100 centimeters each. Medium: Acrylic and Oil paint with ink jet prints of video captures, hair, sand, bus tickets, pokemon stickers, and insects on canvas. This project began with a Fulbright proposal to go to abroad to investigate the famous landscapes and poetry of Chile. In this case, the landscape was loosely defined as physical, social, political and emotional surroundings or environments. This "landscape" would be reinterpreted through the eyes of an outsider artist and made into a series of paintings that were to be exhibited in Chile and Denmark. An important catalyst for this study of the landscape would be research of Chilean poetry. This study began with the Nobel Prize winning Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, and continued on to contemporary poets like Raul Zurita and Nicanor Parra. The main question to investigate was whether there was a way to tap into the inspiration that made Chile known as "The Land of the Poets" and this could be put into a painting. This is a question that may be impossible to answer, but the result was the fourteen paintings shown below. They were exhibited in La Sala Farol in Valparaíso Chile, Galleri Torso in Odense Denmark, and at Kunsthallen in Copenhagen Denmark. Some images of the exhibitions can be viewed as well.
